Do heat pumps work in Ogden's cold winters?

Yes, when the system is a cold-climate model selected for the local design temperatures. A heat pump's capacity drops as it gets colder, so many Ogden homes use a dual-fuel setup that pairs the heat pump with a gas furnace as backup on the coldest nights. Proper cold-climate selection and sizing are what make it work. Call (801) 829-7633 to review options.

Does elevation affect heat pump sizing in the Ogden area?

It does. Higher elevations face colder design temperatures, and air density falls with altitude, so contractors apply altitude derating of roughly 4 percent per 1,000 feet when selecting equipment. A home in the Ogden Valley above 5,000 feet needs different sizing than one on the valley floor, which is why a Manual J calculation matters.

Are there rebates for a heat pump in Utah in 2026?

The federal tax credit expired at the end of 2025, but Utah utility rebates are still active. Rocky Mountain Power's Wattsmart program offers rebates on qualifying heat pumps, and Enbridge Gas ThermWise covers the furnace side of a dual-fuel system. The programs have efficiency rules and their amounts change, so current eligibility is worth verifying.
